The New /complain -- You'll Get a "Kick" Out of It

When Acro 1.2 was released earlier this year, we included a new feature called "/complain" which allows you to log complaints about problem players. This, coupled with /log, did a very good job of acting as a court system for the Acrophobia community. The one thing that was missing, however, was an on-site "police force" tasked with instantly removing troublemakers. Now we have that "police force," only it's not one of us, it's all of you! As of right now we have a new feature in Acrophobia called "Kick." (It requires no client upgrade, which means no additional download is necessary.) Kick is what happens to you if the people in your game think your presence is detrimental to their gameplay experience.

For example, let's say there is someone in the room that is causing a lot of trouble. We'll call him "Fred." (Names have been changed to protect the innocent.) Now let's say Fred begins typing garbage into the channel. I'd say use /ignore. But Fred instead starts typing garbage into his Acro, like "aa bb cc dd-Anthony-is-a-blankety-blank." Well, now you can do something about it.

Here is how Kick works: You cannot Kick somebody who is in first or second place, or someone who is tied for the lead. These provisions are to ensure that players do not use this feature as a means of cheating.

It takes a majority to Kick players from the game. If there are only 1 or 2 players, it's impossible to Kick anybody. If there are 3 to 4 players, it takes 2 to Kick. If there are 5 to 6 players, it takes 3 to Kick. Got it?

When a Kick occurs, that person is banned from the game and cannot return to that particular room for up to 4 hours.

Now with this awesome power comes responsibility. You cannot /complain just because you do not like someone, nor can you /complain because you Kicked them before. They must violate the Common Sense Rules/Terms of Service to warrant a /complaint.

IMPORTANT NOTE: It is a CSR violation to stay in a Zone Room if you are disrupting a Clan Match. This also includes being in a Zone Room at all if you are not wanted. In other words, if you are in a zone room when you don't belong there, the people scheduled to be in that room are within their rights to Kick you out.

However, in the case of all other rooms, you can't issue a complaint against someone just because they are in a room. If you are in an "established" room you cannot Kick someone who is not part of the regular playing group. Nor can you Kick someone who is not playing by your room's special rules, nor can you Kick someone who is not the age listed in the age-specific rooms. If these people actually do something while in the room, then by all means complain! But just being there is not enough. (Again, the clan-only Zone Rooms are different. Don't go there unless there's a match scheduled, and you're in it!)

If you've been Kicked, you'll get dumped back to the Choose a Room screen. Be aware that we don't indicate what rooms you've been Kicked from. That would have required a client update. If you try to return to a room before your four hours are up, you'll be denied access. The error message isn't too specific, but once again, that would have required a client upgrade.

If you use this feature, let me know how it went for you. Was it too hard to get a consensus? Did it work just fine? Will Acrophobia be much better for you from now on? Drop me a line.
